Pensacola has
been called a "do it" kind of a town. The area's terrific
weather and abundant natural resources give water sports enthusiasts
many options. Weekends on area beaches and bays find boats of all
description from small sailboats and boardsails to pleasure craft of
all sizes. The northern end of the region boasts some of the finest
canoeing in the South. White-sand bottomed creeks and bayous and water
temperatures that remain refreshingly cool even on the hottest summer
day make this a popular option for visitors of all ages.
The region boasts some of the finest golf courses found anywhere and
tennis players can find a game at a variety of public and semi-private
courts. An abundance of walking trails and bike paths give exercisers
a safe option. On the beaches, some are not to content and laze the
day away in the sun. You will find volleyball nets and a
come-one-come-all attitude welcoming players of all skill level. Many
visitors are surprised that the area boasts a substantial amount of
surfers who take advantage of the swells when they can catch them,
mostly during summer and winter storms.
Fishermen can cast their nets from the shore, area bridges and piers
or charter a boat for the day guaranteed to bring home that night's
dinner.
