years ago... The stretch of beach between Sandestin and Panama City Beach, Fla., consisted of miles and miles of tiny communities along an undeveloped stretch of two-lane road. Today this 26 mile stretch of sugar-white beaches is home to some of the most upscale accommodations in Florida. Jim Carrey fans will instantly recognize the world-famous planned resort community of Seaside. Sandestin continues to grow and develop as a complete resort. The area features more than 6,000 accommodations and a growing number of upscale and casual dining options Two areas of note are Grayton Beach - one of the 19 beaches of South Walton - recently named "best beach" in the nation for its unspoiled quality and the Topsail Hill State Preserve, one of the U.S. most pristine and environmentally protected coastal properties. Shoppers enjoy one of the South's largest designer outlet malls at Silver Sands and outdoor enthusiasts have their choice of golf, tennis, charter fishing, and recreational boating. Bicycle enthusiasts will enjoy South Walton's eight-feet-wide, off-road pathways that wind along pristine freshwater lakes, undeveloped woodlands, and beach areas. The bike path extends along the roadway from Dune-Allen Beach to Inlet Beach. Nine miles of path are off-road, and a majority of the rest of the 18-mile stretch is connected to the highway
